In spring 2025, Energy Agency Renewables celebrated three years of operation of their Nethermills Weir hydro scheme (Ayr) by reaching the satisfying milestone of 1000000 kWh generated. Around 80% of output is consumed on site by Ayrshire College, and the surplus 20% exported to the grid.
TLS Renewable Consulting designed and project-managed this 90kW hydro screw scheme. Our annual output prediction of 320 MWh was proven accurate when the scheme realised 321 MWh by its first anniversary – albeit a somewhat dry year.
TLS commissioned the project and also designed and supplied the scheme’s bespoke control system and software, hydraulics, and ancillary fabrications. We continue to provide contract maintenance of all M&E components to keep this popular community hydro scheme operating smoothly.
